DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND:
The Marion County Board of County Commissioners acquired two (2) properties in the Silver Springs Community Redevelopment Area, specifically Parcel Identification Numbers 24006-000-00 and 24153-000-00. Parcel 24006-000-00 (5550 E Silver Springs Boulevard) is the site of the former Silver Springs Manor Hotel, and Parcel 24153-000-00 (5401 E Silver Springs Boulevard) is the “Key West” building just west of the Silver Springs State Park entrance.
For discussion, should the property ownership be transferred to the CRA, or should the CRA be enabled to partner with the County to enhance the appearance of the properties by potentially expanding grant opportunities, such as improving the visual aesthetics of the sites in conformance with the CRA’s design guidelines, etc.
Regarding parcel 24006-000-00 (5550 E Silver Springs Boulevard), the Board of County Commissioners directed staff to explore a lease with the adjoining business owner (The Event Warehouse/Silver Springs Vintage Market at 5361 E Silver Springs Boulevard) to provide additional parking for the business. The owner has also inquired about establishing additional cross access and about holding specialty events on the County’s parcel.
