DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND:
The County Attorney is requesting authorization to proceed with the filing of a complaint to abate a nuisance and remove unsafe buildings/structures on property currently owned by James Travis and Peggy Travis, Parcel No. 5020-002-009. The property owners have not responded to the notices sent to the Mississippi address of record or posted at the subject property. Squatters currently occupy the property and are maintaining the property in a public nuisance condition including constructing unpermitted structures and keeping unserviceable vehicles and junk on site. Code Enforcement is within its authority to abate the nuisance by removing the unsafe structures; however, due to the property being occupied and there being no contact with a readily identifiable owner, the County Attorney recommends filing an enjoinment of nuisance action with the Fifth Judicial Circuit Court to obtain a Court Order to allow the removal of the unsafe structures, junk and unserviceable vehicles on the property.
