Parks and Recreation Fees Fund - Parks and Recreation Fees - $1,841,864
Body
INITIATOR: DEPARTMENT:
Jim Couillard, PLA, ASLA, Director Parks and Recreation
DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND:
The Marion County Parks & Recreation Department is requesting to transfer funds to the Rotary Field Improvements project (PRC202201), to increase project budget by $2,345,072.
The Department has finished the planning and design portion of the Rotary Field Improvements project. The project includes replacing two existing natural grass soccer fields with synthetic turf, installation of LED sports field lighting, spectator seating and shade structures, road and parking improvements. These improvements will significantly increase the availability of multi-use athletic fields for the community. The County is making a strategic investment in the community's health, economy, and future, ensuring that our residents have a top-tier facility that meets growing recreational and competitive sports demands.
The funding is available from multiple transfer lines and three projects that are currently at a stall due to unforeseen complications that will push their completion out for a few years. While these projects remain important, shifting funds to the sports turf field project aligns with pressing community demands. The decision to reallocate is based on a thorough review of current priorities, ensuring resources are directed toward a project with broad, lasting benefits. This transfer will enable the department to proceed with the construction of two additional soccer turf fields at Rotary Sportsplex.
