DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND:
In the first six (6) months of FY 22, rainfall is 12% higher than normal and 36% higher than FY 20 (though comparable to FY 21). Because of this, the Solid Waste Landfill is creating more leachate which must be treated and processed prior to disposal. With the rainy season approaching, there is a need to ensure there are funds available for this continued treating. Marion County also offers testing to its citizens who have private wells near the closed Davis and Newton landfills. These optional testing requests had been decreasing for the past three (3) years, but in FY 22, more residents have taken advantage of this testing, increasing costs for the county. These two (2) costs will require additional funding in contract services.
Due to the growth in residents of Marion County and the need to transport waste to the Heart of Florida Landfill, costs for this transportation increased more than was anticipated. This will require additional funds in the Out of County Contract Services.
This is a one-time request.
