DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND:

The United States Department of Justice, through the Office of Justice Programs, has announced the availability of funding under the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP). SCAAP payments are made to units of local government that incur costs due to the incarceration of undocumented criminal aliens. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has applied for and received funding through this program in the past, which must be used for correctional purposes.

 

In order to apply for funding under this program, it is requested that the Marion County Board of County Commissions delegate authority to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office to prepare, submit, and sign all certifications pertaining to the application. A letter signed by Chairman of the Board designating Sheriff Woods as the “Submitting Government Official” is required as part of the application process. A sample from previous application cycles is attached.
