DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND:
Marion County Fire Rescue will be requesting $640,000 in Florida opioid settlement funds to purchase Hamilton T-1 Intelligent Transport Ventilators for all frontline advanced life support (ALS) ambulances. These ventilators provide ICU-level respiratory support in the field and are critical in managing opioid-related respiratory depression and arrest, a leading cause of overdose deaths. The project aligns with approved opioid abatement strategies by strengthening emergency medical response, supporting treatment and recovery, and reducing overdose fatalities.
The proposal outlines the purchase and installation of 40 ventilators across the ALS transport fleet. Benefits include improved patient survival, reduced hypoxic brain injury, and greater clinical precision during resuscitation and transport.
A future agenda item will be brought forward for the procurement of the ventilators.
