DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND:
Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) requests approval to standardize fire station bay floors to an interlocking flooring solution that will enhance and create an overall safe and easy to clean environment. The bays have currently been completed utilizing epoxy with aggregate to coat the floor. Over time the epoxy wears down showing common problems such as bubbling, cracking, and peeling. For some epoxy coated bays, MCFR has experienced a slippery floor due to the aggregate composition resulting in potential slip and fall injuries when water is present. This proposed flooring solution is made of 20.5” x 20.5” tiles that interlock. The tiles form a tight seal that will eliminate leeching of liquid through the joints, and they offer excellent resistance to impact, moisture, and abrasion. The ultra-high performance PVC polymer industrial-grade floor tile, using “Duro-Xtreme” material, does not crack; when exposed to extreme heat or cold, the flooring keeps its shape providing an excellent protective surface. This product is manufactured in the United States by Armor Tuff Flooring, LLC; they offer professional installation services and a lifetime warranty. This flooring solution could potentially benefit other departments county-wide and provide cost-savings, in comparison to epoxy, over time.
Attached for review is the Solicitation Waiver; pending approval at today’s meeting, it will be presented to the Chair for signature.
BUDGET/IMPACT:
Neutral; expenditure of $69,918 to complete fire stations #12 and #28. Estimated expenditure to complete one (1) fire station is $35,000; MCFR’s objective is to complete 2-4 bay floors per FY. If approved today, future annual expenditures will not exceed approved FY budgeted amounts without being brought back to the Board.
