Title
Present Community Services and Code Enforcement Update
Body
INITIATOR: DEPARTMENT:
Cheryl Butler, Director Community Services
DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND:
On May 22, 2024, the BCC authorized the Community Services Department and the Growth Services Department, through the Code Enforcement Division, to collaborate and coordinate a Neighborhood Cleanup Pilot Program using Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Funds. The program goal is to address properties in violation of the County’s Code of Ordinances that are within Low to Moderate Income Census Communities. This program is in the approved 2025-2026 Action Plan and the Community Services 2025-2028 Five Year Consolidated Plan.
In October 2024, the program began by establishing processes that allowed a Code Enforcement Officer and others to obtain the necessary training to accomplish the stated goals. To date, Community Services and Growth Services have successfully cleaned up and/or demolished structures on approximately 20 properties in the low to moderate income areas of the County.
Community Services and Growth Services have proven that this pilot program is successful and plan to continue the program through FY 2025-26, provided the necessary funding remains available.
