DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND:

The applicant, Kathy Werner, has requested a Reasonable Accommodation (RA) to allow two (2) pot-bellied pigs on her residential property in Marion County’s R-4 zoning district, which is designated for Mixed Residential use. The property, located at 14211 NE 208th Ct and identified as Parcel Number 11241-003-14, also falls within the Secondary Springs Protection Zone. Ms. Werner owns the adjacent parcel to the east, Parcel Number 11241-003-13, which provides additional buffering for her property. These pot-bellied pigs serve as emotional support animals, providing therapeutic benefits to the applicant.

In a previous approval dated April 5, 2022, under Case Number 220314RA, Ms. Werner received permission for one pot-bellied pig on her property. This current request seeks to expand that allowance to two pigs. The animals are kept indoors at night and in a well-maintained outdoor pen during the day, providing them with a safe and controlled environment. County staff recommends approval, with conditions to ensure compliance with applicable Land Development Code requirements.
