DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND:
On May 16, 2017, the Board approved the initial Behavioral Transportation Plan to comply with Florida Statutes 394 and 397. Plans must ensure the safe, timely, and appropriate movement of individuals in need of involuntary examination or treatment. These statutes require that each county develop a coordinated transportation plan identifying responsible agencies, procedures, and funding mechanisms for transporting individuals to and from receiving or treatment facilities. The plan must prioritize patient safety, use the least restrictive and most clinically appropriate method, and clearly define roles for law enforcement, EMS, and other authorized transport providers. This is an update from the previously approved 2023 plan and was approved by the Baker Act Task Force during the regular meeting on February 26, 2026. The plan is reevaluated every three (3) years.
