DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND:

The Marion County Parks & Recreation Department is requesting to transfer funds to the Rotary Field Improvements project (PRC202201), to increase project budget by $500,000.

The Department has finished the planning and design portion of the Rotary Field Improvements project. The project includes replacing two existing natural grass soccer fields with synthetic turf, installation of LED sports field lighting, spectator seating and shade structures, and road and parking improvements. These improvements will significantly increase the availability of multi-use athletic fields for the community.

The Tourist Development Council (TDC) voted to recommend funding of $500,000 at their regularly scheduled TDC Meeting on May 30, 2024.

The funding is available through support from the TDC for user enhancements and will encourage multi-day tournaments, thus increasing sports tourism within Marion County. This transfer will allow the Department to move forward with the construction of amenity improvement at the new fields.

BUDGET/IMPACT:

Increase General Fund appropriation by $500,000.
