INITIATOR: DEPARTMENT:
Steven Cohoon, P.E., County Engineer Office of the County Engineer
DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND:
The United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) awarded Marion County $19,020,640 in Federal funding as part of the 2024 Safe Streets and Roads for All grant program. This funding will enable the implementation of the Maricamp Road Multimodal Safety and Access Management Improvements project, a project strategically selected under the Ocala Marion Transportation Planning Organization’s Commitment to Zero Action Plan.
With these funds, the County will be able to enhance multimodal connectivity, providing safer facilities for bicyclists and pedestrians to mitigate crash involvement for these groups. Specifically, we will look to reduce conflict points using raised medians to provide access management, designated U-turns, dedicated right-turn lanes, bicycle and pedestrian pathways with crosswalk enhancements, traffic signal improvements and much more to improve safety and roadway operations for all users.
