SUBJECT:

Title

Request Approval of Grant Agreement for Community Paramedicine Services and the Community Paramedic Program Agreement (Budget Impact - None)

Body

INITIATOR:

DEPARTMENT:

James Banta, Fire Chief

Fire Rescue

DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND:

Access to healthcare and particularly primary care services is a growing concern within our community. Marion County, when compared to the state of Florida, ranks low in the state for health outcomes and health factors. As a result, emergency department services have been highly utilized. Marion County’s Community Paramedicine approach, mission, and purpose is to reduce health spending while improving the health status of the residents of Marion County.

Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) seeks to enter into agreements with Florida Hospital Ocala, Inc. dba AdventHealth Ocala and The Community Foundation for Ocala/Marion County to establish a program designed to reduce hospital readmissions, to prevent non-emergency emergency room visits, and to reduce non-emergency emergency medical service runs by improving access to care for residents in Marion County, Florida.

MCFR seeks to add two (2) Full Time Equivalent (FTE) positions for dedication to this program in order to achieve the goals outlined in the program agreements. Human Resources will bring back a resolution to add those positions at a future Board meeting.

BUDGET/IMPACT:

None
