DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND:
On May 5, 2026, the Board held a Public Hearing to consider an ordinance to establish maximum rates to be charged for the towing of vehicles from or immobilization of vehicles, removal and storage of wrecked or disabled vehicles from an accident scene or for the removal and storage of vehicles, in the event the owner or operator is incapacitated, unavailable, leaves the procurement of wrecker service to the law enforcement officer at the scene, or otherwise does not consent to the removal of the vehicle. The public hearing was continued until June 2, 2026, to allow the Professional Wrecker Operators of Florida (PWOF) additional time to provide information and collaborate with County staff regarding the proposed rates.
The proposed ordinance would create a new section within the Marion County Code governing nonconsensual towing. The maximum allowable rates would be established by separate resolution, which will also be considered at the public hearing.
