Public Safety Communications |
DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND:
The current expenditure budget appropriation for the Communication Services account is inadequate due to rising communication service costs and increased operational requirements within the 911 Dispatch Communication Center. Additionally, funding is needed to enhance wireless service coverage inside the center by installing a signal booster, antenna, and external cabling. This upgrade will provide a dependable communication backup in the event of a primary dispatch system outage, ensuring staff can continue communicating with responding agencies and the public through wireless devices. The necessary funds will be reallocated from existing appropriations within the department’s Utility Services - Electric Water Sewer, Computer Software, and Contract Services - Miscellaneous accounts.
This request represents a non-recurring expenditure. The budget amendment addresses a one-time need to support increased communication service demands and strengthen operational continuity through improved wireless coverage in the 911 Dispatch Communication Center. Installation of the signal booster will enhance in building wireless reliability and provide an essential layer of redundancy, ensuring continuity of operations during system failures and improving emergency response capabilities.
