Marion County administers grant funding for the Ocala/Marion Joint Office on Homelessness under the Continuum of Care (CoC) FL-514. This funding, which includes the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG), Challenge Grant, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF). DCF has a Unified Contract with the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) to distribute these funds to homeless service organizations.
On September 4, 2024, the BCC approved additional ESG funding from DCF. On July 2, 2024, the BCC approved a $172,000 agreement with Saving Mercy for rapid rehousing and prevention services. Over the past year, Saving Mercy has helped 125 households and can use the additional funds to serve at least 7 more households by June 30, 2025. The CoC Executive Board recommends increasing the Saving Mercy agreement by $17,500.34.
