DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND:
In partnership with the City of Ocala, the new Marion County Public Library branch in the Mary Sue Rich Community Center at Reed Place is slated to open in the summer of 2022. Attached is a departmental memo from the Public Library and the Commission Policy 14-02 regarding the naming of County properties. Per the policy, it is necessary to bring forward for discussion the naming of the new library branch and receive direction from the Board.
Number five (5) of the policy states: “The County Administrator shall appoint a Staff Ad Hoc Facilities Naming Committee. The committee shall have five (5) to seven (7) members. Members shall include a representative of the Commissioner whose district the facility is located, a representative of the County Administrator’s Office, a representative of the Interested Department who will act as chair and secretary, a representative of the Historical Commission, and the remaining members shall be chosen from interested citizens.”
If directed to proceed with this request, Commissioner Michelle Stone, Angel Roussel, Assistant County Administrator of Public and Environmental Services, and Julie Sieg, Director of Public Library System, will be on the committee. Additional members will be added as the County Administrator finalizes the formation of the committee.
