SUBJECT:

Title

Fire, Rescue and EMS Fund - Fire Rescue Services - $86,589

Body

INITIATOR:

DEPARTMENT:

James Banta, Fire Chief

Fire Rescue

DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND:

Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) has been awarded a grant from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to support the purchase of three drones. The grant provides $25,000, which covers the cost of one drone. This budget amendment serves to formally recognize the grant award and authorize the transfer of funds necessary to complete the purchase.

To fund the remaining cost, dollars will be reallocated from the “Aid to the City of Ocala” budget line. Each year, in accordance with the Automatic Aid Agreement between MCFR and Ocala Fire Rescue (OFR), both agencies review the number of mutual aid calls provided during the prior calendar year, which in this case is 2024, to determine the amount owed to the City of Ocala. This year’s review resulted in a mutually agreed-upon amount that is lower than originally budgeted, creating savings that can be redirected to support the drone acquisition.

These available funds will be used for this one-time capital purchase. If the drones are not received before the end of the fiscal year, a reappropriation may be necessary to carry forward the funding.

A corresponding purchase order for this acquisition will appear on this agenda under “Purchases Over $50,000” and will be presented for approval.

BUDGET/IMPACT:

Increase Fire, Rescue and EMS Fund appropriation by $75,000.
