DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND:
Marion County Utilities is continuing its efforts to protect public health and water quality by transitioning properties within the Silver Springs Shores Septic-to-Sewer Phase 2 Program Area from septic systems to the County sewer system. To support this initiative, the Board of County Commissioners previously adopted Resolution No. 24-R-303, which established a 90-day period for eligible property owners to enter into service agreements with Marion County Utilities and qualify for available American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding assistance for utility connections. Participation in the program allows residents to connect to the County's utility system while significantly reducing out-of-pocket connection costs.
Although connection to the sewer system is required pursuant to applicable regulations, the original decision period has expired, and some eligible property owners have not yet executed service agreements. Marion County Utilities is requesting an extension to provide additional time for participation and to ensure that as many property owners as possible can take advantage of available grant funding before assuming the full cost of required utility connections.
Approval of this resolution will extend the service agreement deadline established in Resolution No. 24-R-303 to September 1, 2026, while leaving all other provisions, obligations, and conditions of the original resolution unchanged.
