SUBJECT:

Title

Marion County Utility Fund - Utilities Capital Construction - $159,266

Body

INITIATOR:

DEPARTMENT:

Tony Cunningham, P.E., Director

Utilities

DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND:

Marion County Utilities (MCU) established a Capital Improvement Program (CIP) project to add wells at the SummerGlen and Marion Oaks 4 facilities. However, the funding currently allocated to this project is insufficient to complete the planned improvements.

MCU previously established a CIP project to construct a well reaching the Lower Floridan Aquifer. This project has been completed, and funding remains available due to a grant received from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The remaining funds will be reallocated to support other utility capital needs, and Project UTC000203 will be closed.

MCU also entered into a contract agreement with Road Runner Resources, LLC for the oversizing of water and sewer mains associated with infrastructure being installed by the developer at Coyote Crossings Industrial Park. Due to inflation and higher-than-anticipated construction costs, additional funding is required to complete this work.

Additionally, MCU previously entered into an agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation to connect the I-75 Rest Area to MCU utility services. This project has been completed and did not require all of the funding originally allocated. The remaining available funds will be removed from the project budget and used to support the SummerGlen and Marion Oaks Well Addition project. Project UTC000189 will also be closed.

BUDGET/IMPACT:

Decrease Marion County Utility Fund appropriation by $128,273.

RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Recommended action

Approve attached Budget Amendment Resolution, amend the CIP and approve re-appropriation of funds to FY 2026-27 Budget.
