DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND:
Attached for record is a letter of support and two (2) submissions to the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure for funding consideration in the 2021 Surface Transportation Authorization Legislation. Jim Davenport, of Thorn Run Partners, brought this opportunity to our attention and will be seeking support from our Legislative Delegation.
As this is Federal funding, staff targeted projects that are already subject to Federal processes:
1. NW 49th/35th Street Phase 2C, more commonly known as the new 4-lane divided roadway with an interchange on I-75 between NW 44th Avenue and an existing limerock pit. As this project already has Federal and State money tied to construction, it is appropriate for the County to seek the local funding associated with the right-of-way acquisition, estimated to cost $10,200,000.
2. Planning and Environmental Review for Marion Oaks Manor and Extension (Grade Separation), a proposed new I-75 flyover in Southwest Marion County from SW 18th Avenue Road in Marion Oaks to CR 475. This project is currently not funded in our 5-year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), but it is in the Ocala Marion Transportation Planning Organization’s (TPO) Long Range Transportation Plan.
Both of these projects will relieve congestion in and around the I-75 corridor and improve overall mobility for residential and commerce traffic.
