DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND:

Internship programs provide a bridge between our organization, education and our community. Additionally, Interns serve as valuable ambassadors of our culture and organization and can not only help with providing affordable productivity in the workplace, but also, enhance perspectives and foster leadership skills in our current employees.

 

While currently the county has non-paid internship programs in place, it has become apparent that we can build a stronger network of future employees of the county if we also offer paid internship programs. The Human Resources department is proposing the addition of up to ten (10) Internship positions to be paid $10.00 an hour (not to exceed $55,910 annually) within the Human Resource’s budget in order to help promote a pipeline of candidates within our school systems and our community.


The paid internship program will be administered by the Human Resources Department with the interns themselves working in our various county departments keeping our risk limitations in mind. Human Resources will also have oversight throughout the internship to ensure that the intern is getting valuable experience and feedback within their department of choice. The County Administrator will approve all internship placement within the county departments, including the Commission Office.

 

A corresponding budget amendment to move funds within the Human Resources budget will be on June 1, 2021 Board meeting.
